We're Here!

Well, we’ve been in Indonesia for about 4 weeks now. Hard to believe it’s been that long, and then again, it feels like so much longer. We are doing well. I am finally beginning to settle here. I start language study July 7th, which I’m really looking forward to. Derek has been a huge help in translating things for me, and being able to drive me around town, but it’ll be nice to have a little independence again.

The weather has been beautiful. We arrived at the end of rainy season. I think it’s only rained twice since we got here, but the days are still mild and comfortable. I’m told it will warm up even more in the next month, but June has the nicest weather with cooler mornings and evenings.

So far, I agree. : ) ha!

Sunday morning the volcano near to us, named Merapi, was billowing again. It is a good thing that the wind is not blowing all of the ash towards us. It also kind of helps that there is a larger mountain named Merbabu almost right in front of it that shields us from the ash. Derek took me up to a lookout to see Mt. Merapi the other day. It was too cloudy to see, unfortunately, but there was a neat volcano museum there. When we were driving back down, we stopped to buy some plants, and the guy said that we could see it best in the morning. So, maybe another time.

For an update on the Dao tribe, Our Indonesian co-workers Merfin and Elly decided to return to their home in central Indonesia. Hopefully they will find out some of the problems to Ibu Ellie’s sicknesses. This leaves Scott and Jennie in the tribe alone now.

Please be in prayer for our coworkers.

Thank you all for your prayers and support!

Sarah and Derek,
I just love reading your update. Today I had about 8 of my girlfriends over. We watched the dvd which Derek sent to us about your work in Indonesia. It is now a perequisite for all who enter our house. We are praying for you both.
