Wayang

I guess, even though I am an adult, I can still have class trips. Our language school invited all the students and teachers to go to a traditional Javanese puppet show. The puppets here are called Wayang. I can't say that it was all that exciting. We were pretty bored, but the instruments were cool and it was a neat experience all the same.

Here is the guy holding the Wayang and telling the story in Indonesian (traditionally this would all be in Javanese, but for the sake of us westerners, who don't know Javanese, he did it in Indonesian). As you can see, he just holds characters who are attached to a stick in front of a lit up white screen. The large Wayang is the giant in the story.

In front and around the stage were people playing these instruments.
It was very loud, but very cool!

Here's a little closer look at the Wayang. Sorry if it's not completely clear.
