Bernardus Update
Originally uploaded by Derek & Sarah Grant.
This is a picture of Bernardusi. He has been sick for a couple of weeks, and we were afraid he was going to die. On Thursday, I
hiked down to see him, and gave him some medicine and tried to encourage him. He was very weak, but took the medicine.
A few hours later, Obapwi hiked down and worked sorcery on him for about 15 minutes. When he was done, Bernardus was crying and so
was Obapwi. As far as we know, these 2 men are believers, but in part still holding onto their old ways. Before I left, I said to
him, "You are the Creator ones son. Don't be afraid."
Even though these precious people sometimes slip back into their old ways, they are growing tremendously in the Lord. A few weeks
ago Scott taught about deacons. He said, "The early church had some physical needs and the church appointed some to fulfill those
physical needs. Are there any physical needs here that the church has? and would anyone like to fulfill these roles?" Bernardus
said, "I can't read God's word, but on Sunday I will come and listen, and when the talk is done, I will hike down to those who can't
come because they are sick and old, and I will retell the talk for them."
He really is a man with a servant's heart. We are praying he will recover soon.

I appreciate that you use the blog to update. Pictures always help us to try to enter into what is like for you there. (although I am sure we have no clue really). -rachel Brooks
