Update #4

More emails from home about Chloe:

“Chloe went into surgery last night around 5:00pm.  The doctors said she looks good.  They finished cleaning up the wound.  On Friday she is to go back into surgery and they will sew everything up, so her leg can start to heal itself.  Chloe will then be there until the Doctors feel she is ready to go home.

Everybody is doing better.  Joel was a lot better yesterday, but still has his moments as well as Kari.  Chloe was alert and awake yesterday and talking a little.  That has helped a lot.  Dad and I are taking Alex to the Aquarium in Baltimore tomorrow.

  • Keep praying for Joel that God will end the loop of images he has in his head from Monday.
  • That the family will be secure in God's grace and continue to trust him.
  • For Friday that the surgery will go well and Chloe will heal quickly.”

Every day we see the mercies of God!  They truly ARE new every morning!

Kari has come back here for right now to be with Alex a bit.  He was missing her so much and she hadn't seen him since Mon. suppertime. They were outside playing soccer and right now are watching a movie together.

Meanwhile, John, Joel, & Paul (Kari’s dad) have gone to be with Chloe.  Kari said she is doing really well and is even beginning to eat little 'favorite' foods.  She was a little 'perky' this morning Kari said, but then when they gave her her meds, she became 'mellow' again.  She has an epidural which apparently keeps her 'numb' from the waist down, although she really moves that right leg all over the place!!!  She is moving her arms and talking a little more.  Yesterday she was running a fever, which the Drs. expected.  They had taken her to the OR yesterday to remove more of the 'grass' and to clean the wound further.  It is possible they MAY do that again today, but their plan was to take her again tomorrow and clean the wound for sure and if all looks good, they will graft that flap of skin over the bottom of the wound so healing can begin.

Joel seems a bit more stable now that John is here…His heart is just crushed and he is so full of emotion…Kari cries freely when nobody is around....or when it's just she & Joel...I'm thankful she can release some of that emotional strain.  Right now she's sleeping on the couch, and 'watching' a movie with Alex.  She got little sleep last night since

Chloe was awake until after 2 AM.   In about an hour, we'll be going back down to the hospital to 'change places' with the guys.  Alex will ride along with us and then just stay in the car for the ride home with the men.  He is doing OK, but has said several things to indicate that he is trying to 'process' all the sights that he saw too on Monday.

I've asked the prayer chain ladies to really be praying for him as well…Chloe is such a trooper.....we do not know what lies ahead, but we do know Who holds it all together and Who it is Who holds us!!”
