Joel sent us an email to post…here it is:
“Hi Sarah and Derek,
I went into the hospital yesterday with Dad and Paul while Kari came home to see Alex. Chloe was wide awake all day. She watched movies which she really enjoys. She sure does talk up a storm. She is moving her hands and other foot very well and she kept saying she wanted to get down. That was the hardest thing for me to hear. She ate and drank some too, so that was encouraging. I know people are praying because we can feel it along with his grace every day. Chloe goes into surgery today to clean her leg and finalize the stitching up process. Pray for no infection and that today will be the last day for surgery as it takes a tole on Chloe. I just want to thank everyone for praying and thinking about us at this time. We know that God is good and has a plan for us as we see His hand guide through this difficult time. Dad, Nate and Alex are going to the aquarium today in
In His love and Grace,
Joel for the family

“Joel, Paul and myself went to the hospital yesterday about noon and stayed until after 6 when Kari and Linda returned for the night. Chloe really livened up in the afternoon and she was talking and smiling, much like her old self. There were a couple clowns who came to the room and the one was blowing bubbles. He had Chloe reaching to pop them and she really got into it. She was also getting much more physically active and asked a couple times if she could get down. She didn't fight when we said no. I wonder what is going through her head as she lies there in the bed and there is this steady stream of doctors and nurses doing this and that. Does she wonder why she is in this bed, can't get out and go play. But she doesn't complain and is very cooperative for the nurses. It is good that a family member is with her at all times. She is calm and not fearful.
This morning she goes back into the operating room again for the doctors to do a final check and then to close the wound over. That will probably set her back a bit again because of the anesthetic.
A therapist was in yesterday afternoon and explained that they will be starting therapy with Chloe as soon as she is ready to head home, and will be getting her ready for the prosthesis. It sounded like things will move along quickly.”
