Chloe's progress - update #6

Update from Kari’s mom:

“Just a quick update on Chloe.  Joel spent the night last night and said Chloe did pretty well.  She still is not eating well, and that is a bit of a concern.  She is drinking those pediasure drinks for kids and that helps.  Today Kari was allowed to put her into a little red wagon and pull her around the hallways and into the playroom.  Chloe really 'came to life' in the playroom and they had lots of fun while they were there!

Kari just called and said that there was some fluid forming around the wound.  They will begin to check and clean it out 2X a day now.  The prayer is that there would be NO infection that would set in where this skin graft is....otherwise they might have to do more surgery.  So this is a BIG prayer request for our girl.   Also, it seems that the insurance coverage is moving and Joel should be assigned a number very, very soon.  That would be so good if that would come in this week.

Joel was a bit 'down' when he came back from the hospital around noon. I think just seeing Chloe so non-responsive and kind of 'blah' got to him, but at least this afternoon she was her 'old self' and I have seen Joel's countenance change considerably with that news.  We continue to pray that our Father would just heal both of their hearts.....Alex as well.  They are going to look into the possibility to see if a short visit from Alex would be possible.  J & K think that would be good for both the children.  We will pray.”

Update from Joel’s mom:

“I called Linda last night to find out about Chloe.  The doctors were in by 6:30 in the morning to take off the bandage and see how it was all healing.  Everything looked good so far and they put on a little smaller bandage from the knee down instead of the whole leg.  Chloe was a little grumpy yesterday because they had to wake her up to give her valium before they changed the bandage.  She was a little out of sorts until the clowns came in.  They are weaning her off the epidural now and giving her another pain medication by mouth.  It is a narcotic that calms the nerve endings.  I am not sure how long all that takes but I expect the epidural will soon be over.  Also, they will be moving her out of the semi-intensive care room to a semi-private room on the same floor.  This semi-intensive care ward had about 6 beds in it and there was a nurses station in the room.  Two nurses were on duty all the time and they checked on Chloe and the other children every 15 minutes.  Chloe got the best care she possibly could.  She continues to be cooperative with the nurses and Dad said they are just super with her.  They are so well trained and know exactly how to handle children.

He spent the night on Monday so that Kari could go home and get some sleep.  They may just have one person there at night now and take turns during the day.  It is still very hard for Kari.  She has not been able to talk to people yet but all that will come in time.  We just need to keep upholding her in prayer.

An old song kept going through my head this morning.  I couldn't even remember all the words.  But the last two lines are:  I don't know about tomorrow... but I know who holds the future and I know who holds my hand.  I wish I could remember all the words but God is there holding everyone's hands and won't let them fall. He can be trusted.”

LEANN RIMES LYRICS

"I Know Who Holds Tomorrow"

I don't know about tomorrow,
I just live from day to day.
And I don't borrow from its sunshine
'Cause the skies might turn to grey.
And I don't worry about the future,
'Cause I know what Jesus said,
And today I'm gonna walk right beside him
'Cause he's the one who knows what is ahead.
There are things about tomorrow
That I don't seem to understand
But I know who holds tomorrow
And I know who holds my hand.
And each step is getting brighter
As the golden stairs I climb.
And every burden is getting lighter
And all the clouds are silver lined.
And, over there the sun is always shining
And no tears will ever dim the eye
And the ending of the rainbow
Where the mountains, they touch the sky.
There are many things about tomorrow
I don't seem to understand
But I know who holds tomorrow
And I know who holds my hand.
Yes I know who holds my hand.
